Golden Triangle Audubon Society

The Golden Triangle Audubon Society was founded in 1996 as a chapter of the National Audubon Society. GTAS has monthly meetings in Beaumont, Texas, with presentations focusing on birds and other wildlife of southeastern Texas. Monthly field trips are offered for members and the general public to learn about birding in the area. GTAS maintains a checklist of birds in the area and a database of sightings. A main activity for the membership is the important work for Christmas Bird Counts, with GTAS members participating each year in the Sea Rim, Orange County, Beech Creek, Turkey Creek, Johnsons Bayou, and Bolivar Peninsula counts. GTAS publishes a monthly newsletter, the Brown Pelican, reporting on current birding sightings and status. GTAS members also help maintain the Texas Ornithological Society's Sabine Woods preserve. GTAS members maintain education outreach programs for local schools and groups.
